**Senior MATHEMATICS**

In Senior Mathematics, students continue to develop their numeracy skills through NCEA Level 1 and 2.

**The importance of Senior Mathematics**

Level 1 Mathematics prepares students for Level 2 Mathematics, if they wish to continue with the subject. It also gives them Numeracy credits and some Literacy credits for their NCEA Certificate. It provides students, with sufficient knowledge and skills to solve mathematical problems in real life.

Level 2 Mathematics prepares students to undertake either Statistics and/or Calculus at Level 3. It gives students a good understanding of mathematics in real life, as well as leading to studies at tertiary institutions, such as Wintec and the University of Waikato.

**What will be covered in the Senior Mathematics Programmes?**

**Level 1 Mathematics**

This subject has two different courses to cater for the diverse range of abilities of our young people.

**MAT101- **This course has four internally assessed standards and three externally assessed standards. The topics covered in this course are** **Statistics, Algebra, Probability and Tables, Equations and Graphs.

**MAI102- **This course is entirely internally assessed allowing the students more time for each standard. The topics covered in this course include Statistics, Number, Trigonometry, Algebra and Geometry. The content of this course prepares students well for Vocational pathways.

**Level 2 Mathematics**

This course also has two versions --MAT201 and MAI202

**MAT201- **This course has four internally assessed standards and three externally assessed standards. The topics covered in this course are Statistics, Trigonometry, Probability, Algebra and Calculus.

**MAI202- **This course is entirely internally assessed allowing the students more time for each standard. The topics covered in this course are Statistics, Trigonometry, Networks, Probability and Sequences and Series.
