Margaret Comer, Corporate Services Executive, Gallagher Group Limited, took the reins of Melville High School as the Principal for a day for Wednesday 26th of August. Mrs Comer spoke to an assembly, visited classes, met with staff and students, and was entertained and provided with lunch by Melville High School students. We were pleased to be part of this initiative where a business leader shadowed a secondary school principal for a day. The goal was to give business leaders a unique, behind-the-scenes view and insight into the Principal's world.

The programme is designed to be a catalyst for strengthening relationships between a secondary school and a community or business leader. The leader-to-leader conversations that took place last Wednesday helped each gain a better understanding of each others' leadership roles.

The school was very pleasantly surprised when Mrs Comer announced a very generous offer of $10,000.00 sponsorship for each of the next three years for specific school projects. She also presented the school with a magnificent pounamu axe as a symbol of our ongoing relationship.

Mrs. Comer and Mr. Hamill joined other participants from secondary schools both in Hamilton and elsewhere in the Waikato at Wintec later that day to share and celebrate the events that unfolded. Both leaders have affirmed their commitment to work together. All Melville High Staff will be visiting Gallagher's Kahikatea site in October as a one of the many follow up partnership arrangements.
